Lean In: Perspective
Take a guess at what you think the following pictures represent:
(Answers are at the bottom of the page.)
Perspective is everything! Such is the case with us too.
Most of us have a default perspective we use to define ourselves. We may rely on our roles, status, job, intellect, or even our problems to tell ourselves “who we are.” If you were to meet a likeable stranger on a plane who asked you, “So _____, tell me who you are in two sentences or less,” what would you say?
Look Down- Read Ephesians 1:3-10
Together, make a list on the left side of a sheet of paper of everything in these verses that God says He intends for His people. (8-10 blessings)
Look Out
Using your above list, create a second list on the right of items that might be the opposites of those blessings. For example, God’s word says we are blameless. The opposite is deserving of shame.
Look at the two lists your group made together. When you think about the church in general and believers you know, which list do you believe is more characteristic of the way we view ourselves?
Look In
Which pair of opposites speaks to you today? How do you sense God might be inviting you to experience Him more fully? How do you think He might be encouraging you to adopt a more accurate perspective of yourself?
Puzzle answers: Charlie Brown going snorkeling, a monster checking for children under the bed, a whale about to floss.
